The Value of Wisdom - Proverbs 2:1-9 - Quick Observations

Quick links to the passage: KJV NKJV NASB NIV

Before we look at our quick observation today, time is running out and spots are filling up for our online bible study. Sometimes people want to receive something if they give their name and email address on a website. What will you receive if you enter your name and email for the online bible study? First, you will receive the blessings from God when you get involved in bible study anytime. Second, you will learn how to approach and handle God’s Word in a way that is honoring Him. Third, you will learn the life lessons God has in store for you. And fourth, whatever e-book comes out of this study, you will get a free copy as a thank you from us at Berean Bible Study because of your participation. So look at all you will get if you just put your name and email address on the right and we will see you in June in our online bible study. Now to the quick observation.

Did you ever find something or even owned it and at first did not realize its value until much later? You may have owned it and even got rid of it and afterwards saw how valuable it really was. Its value did not even have to be financial. It could have been sentimentally, morally, culturally or historically valuable. Would it have been nice if someone informed you its value beforehand, especially if you have already lost it?

Well I have good news for you because Solomon has done just that for you…

Wisdom at initial inspection may not seem very valuable to you. But Solomon tells us that we should value her. We need to listen and incline ourselves to her in verses 1 to 2. We need to beg for her in verse 3. When we beg for something, we either need it very badly or want it desperately.

In verse 4, we need to search out for wisdom like someone trying to search for riches. This reminds me of when I read of the gold rush in the west. People would sell out everything they had to go looking for gold. Do we sell out everything to go looking for wisdom?

When we find and acquire wisdom, we also find the fear of the LORD in verse 5, which from chapter 1 verse 7 is the beginning of knowledge. We not only find knowledge but knowledge from God Himself. Why? Because in verse 6 God gives wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. These are the things acquired in chapter 1 when we are teachable and show respect toward God.

Here is where the value of wisdom kicks in verse 7 to 9. It protects the righteous one and upright one like a shield. It preserves the way the saints go. It gives discernment in all things allowing the one who has wisdom to make correct decisions.

How much is wisdom valuable to you? Can you put a price tag on wisdom that can do all this for you? What would wisdom like this be worth to you? Priceless.
