Most of us, if not all of us, have heard the warning that you should be careful with who you hang out with. The one reason given to me was that I will become like those I associate with. It is true that certain habits, how we say things, and our interests merge in like with those who we are in contact with the most.

Though that is an important concern for all of us, but that is not the exact warning given here when we associate with the sinful crowd…

Parents - One of God’s Greatest Gifts to Us - Quick Observations - Proverbs 1:8,9

When I was an adolescent, if I saw a title to a sermon or article like this one, I would have thought the author or speaker was crazy. I never considered my parents as one of God’s greatest gifts in my immature years of life. I always thought that my parents never had it all together. Unfortunately, after I received Jesus Christ as my Savior right before my sixteenth birthday, our relationship got worse. That was partly because of my immaturity and partly of my parents not able to understand spiritual things.

Being Teachable & Showing Respect - Quick Observations - Proverbs 1:1-7

After the first verse attributes the author of the book to Solomon, king of Israel, the first thing I notice is a list. Exactly what is it a list of? Here we see a list of abilities: to know, to discern, to receive, to give, and to understand. But also notice what these abilities are connected to: wisdom and instruction, the sayings of understanding, instruction in wise behavior et al, prudence, and a proverb and a figure et al. I thought to myself that it would be great to be able to do these proficiently. I’m sure it would save me from a lot of stupid mistakes that I have made in the past and what I am about to make in the future.
