The Value of Wisdom - Proverbs 2:1-9 - Quick Observations

Quick links to the passage: KJV NKJV NASB NIV

Before we look at our quick observation today, time is running out and spots are filling up for our online bible study. Sometimes people want to receive something if they give their name and email address on a website. What will you receive if you enter your name and email for the online bible study? First, you will receive the blessings from God when you get involved in bible study anytime. Second, you will learn how to approach and handle God’s Word in a way that is honoring Him. Third, you will learn the life lessons God has in store for you. And fourth, whatever e-book comes out of this study, you will get a free copy as a thank you from us at Berean Bible Study because of your participation. So look at all you will get if you just put your name and email address on the right and we will see you in June in our online bible study. Now to the quick observation.

Did you ever find something or even owned it and at first did not realize its value until much later? You may have owned it and even got rid of it and afterwards saw how valuable it really was. Its value did not even have to be financial. It could have been sentimentally, morally, culturally or historically valuable. Would it have been nice if someone informed you its value beforehand, especially if you have already lost it?

Well I have good news for you because Solomon has done just that for you…

What Happens When We Disregard Wisdom’s Warning? - Quick Observations - Proverbs 1: 24-33

Quick links to the passage: KJV NKJV NASB NIV

Before we start, let me encourage you again to sign up for our bible study that will take place online starting in June. If you ever desired to know how to study the bible effectively or if you struggle to get results from your bible study, then you need to put your name and email address in the box on the right and join us. You will not only learn the book of 2John, which is what we will be studying, but you will come away with the method of studying the bible and the confidence that you can do it. So go ahead and sign up. Now to today’s quick observation.

Last time we saw that wisdom was out in the public areas yelling to everyone a warning to turn to her. What happens to those who reject that warning? I grew up on Looney Tunes when I was a kid and my favorite was always the Coyote and Roadrunner. I liked all the inventions that backfired on the Coyote as he tried to catch the Roadrunner, but during the chase it was always inevitable that there was going to be some kind of road hazard ahead with a warning sign. And just as the Coyote was about to catch his dinner, the Roadrunner would heed to the warning but the Coyote would disregard it eventually to his impending demise, whether he would fall from a cliff, run into something, get hit by some huge object, or get blown up from some kind of explosive.

This is a comical retake to this passage here. What happens when we disregard wisdom’s warning? The outcome is not so funny.

Berean Bible Study - My Vision

I just wanted to take a few moments to share what is on my heart for this website and ministry. First, Berean Bible Study is in its very beginnings but God has given me a vision for what He can do with this.

  1. I want people to understand that bible study is not about academics but action. We will not study the bible just to know its contents but to make us conform to the will and heart of God.
  2. I want to remove any and all obstacles people have when it comes to studying the bible. I do not want anything to prevent someone from approaching the bible without confidence.
  3. Built upon #1 and #2, I want to promote a insatiable hunger in people for the bible. God’s Word is alive and we should not be able to help ourselves but get into it.
  4. I want to build a respect for the bible so that its message is not to be abused. The bible are the very words of God so we must not misinterpret it or take it out of context for any reason.
  5. I want to show those, who have gone through #1 to #4, how to study the bible that is exciting, rewarding, efficient, and not intimidating. Bible study is not just for the pastor or bible student. It is for every child of God.
  6. I want to encourage those, who have gone through #1 to #5, to get others to get involved in bible study. There are times for personal bible study, but it gets richer and more dynamic when it is a shared experience with others.
  7. I want to help those who start their own bible studies with materials, encouragement, and direction so that their bible study group will be a success. This website and ministry will be there to support and edify your bible study group.
  8. I would like to see some bible study groups do exploratory bible studies geared to bring in the unsaved to hear the Word of God through a special bible study with the goal to share the gospel with them.
  9. Eventually I want to start periodic bible conferences and retreats that will encourage, rejuvenate, and equip the attendees. These can be special times where God can really touch the hearts of those who come, where God can impress Himself on them pertaining to His Word and ministry.

Just some thoughts that God has placed on my heart. It all starts somewhere. If you want to get involved, we are going to have a bible study online starting in June. Just fill out your name and email address to the right and you will be emailed more information.

Wisdom Is Closer Than You Think - Quick Observations - Proverbs 1:20-23

Quick links to the passage: KJV NKJV NASB NIV

So if you want to be a part of it for free, just sign up. Now to today’s quick observation.

Have you ever been in a situation where you did not know what to do or how to handle it? I have definitely had my fair share of occasions where I wish I was wiser so that I knew what was best for a given situation. There are probably more times than I want to admit.

So where is the wisdom we need for our situations that we find ourselves in? Well, wisdom is closer than you think…

Who Do You Associate With? - Quick Observations - Proverbs 1:10-19

Quick links to the passage: KJV NKJV NASB NIV

Before we get started again, do not forget to get involved in our online bible study in June. It will be a blessing far greater than can be measured and it will continue to pay spiritual dividends on going in your life. Spots are filling up, just enter your name and email address to the right. Now to today’s quick observation.

Most of us, if not all of us, have heard the warning that you should be careful with who you hang out with. The one reason given to me was that I will become like those I associate with. It is true that certain habits, how we say things, and our interests merge in like with those who we are in contact with the most.

Though that is an important concern for all of us, but that is not the exact warning given here when we associate with the sinful crowd…

Parents - One of God’s Greatest Gifts to Us - Quick Observations - Proverbs 1:8,9

Quick links to the passage: KJV NKJV NASB NIV

Again just a quick reminder before we get into our quick observations today, do not forget to sign up for our online bible study to start in June. Just fill out your name and email address to the left. Your privacy will be protected. I really hate spam. You will only get emails from me concerning the bible study and the ministry of this website. You will be blessed that you did sign up because not only will you learn what the bible says, you will learn how to study it effectively so that on your own or with others you can study God’s Word with confidence. What could be better than knowing that when you approach God’s Word, you will learn what God has for you. I cannot promise you that you will learn everything in God’s Word. But I can promise you that you will come away with something and that the Holy Spirit will show it to you. Now to the quick observation.

When I was an adolescent, if I saw a title to a sermon or article like this one, I would have thought the author or speaker was crazy. I never considered my parents as one of God’s greatest gifts in my immature years of life. I always thought that my parents never had it all together. Unfortunately, after I received Jesus Christ as my Savior right before my sixteenth birthday, our relationship got worse. That was partly because of my immaturity and partly of my parents not able to understand spiritual things.

But here is the truth of the matter…

Being Teachable & Showing Respect - Quick Observations - Proverbs 1:1-7

Quick links to the passage: KJV NKJV NASB NIV

Before we get started, there are still a few spots left in the upcoming bible study that we will have online starting in June. If you are interest, just sign up on the form to the right. If you sign up when all the spots are filled, you will be placed into a waiting list and then be notified when the next bible study will start. Now onto the quick observation.

After the first verse attributes the author of the book to Solomon, king of Israel, the first thing I notice is a list. Exactly what is it a list of? Here we see a list of abilities: to know, to discern, to receive, to give, and to understand. But also notice what these abilities are connected to: wisdom and instruction, the sayings of understanding, instruction in wise behavior et al, prudence, and a proverb and a figure et al. I thought to myself that it would be great to be able to do these proficiently. I’m sure it would save me from a lot of stupid mistakes that I have made in the past and what I am about to make in the future.

Then it hit me…
